![]() ![]() Stardock has made so many changes that it is eager to start collecting player feedback early, and alpha testing will begin this summer prior to next year’s planned release. Previous “maps” of past galaxy civilization games are connected to other similar maps via subspace streams, providing the entire galaxy for players to explore, extend, leverage, and disinfect. The fourth entry in this iconic strategy game series is a new system and design idea that helps new iterations catch up with other modern space strategy games such as Stellaris and Endless Space 2 and wants to raise it all to 11. I was wondering what Stardock had been doing for the past year, but now I know: Galactic Civilizations IV is here. Galactic Civilizations III was released in 2015 and has been supported by DLC until last year. Gal civ 3 with crusade is by far the most in depth against the ai, the reseouces system makes diplomacy engaining and interesting and every game is varied and interesting. In many respects, it’s literally a space civilization, but as turn-based strategies evolved, so did the position of “Gal Cibs” in space. Endless space 2 is cool in theory and I probably a good game if you can play with friends, but the ai is garbage and the UI is a mess imo, combined with a fairly meh tech tree and bad support for large maps. ![]() Galactic Civilizations has always been a Pantheon staple of 4x games, offering a niche, near-indie alternative to Civilization and other games of the era. ![]()
